Folding-Arm Awnings

Shade over the patio on demand — and gone completely the moment you want the sun back.

Spring-tensioned folding arms hold a fabric canopy flat over a patio, deck or entertainment area with no posts and no permanent roof — nothing standing in the middle of the view or the braai space. Retract it and the whole thing disappears into a cassette against the wall, so the argument a fixed roof can never make — "let the winter sun back in" — is simply a button press here.

Projection runs to roughly three or four metres over wide spans, in solution-dyed acrylic fabrics chosen to hold their colour under South African UV rather than bleach out after a season or two. A full cassette seals the fabric and arms away completely when weather-exposed positions call for it; semi-cassette and open mounting suit more sheltered spots.

What You're Buying

Four things worth knowing

No posts, no clutter

Spring-tensioned folding arms hold the fabric flat with nothing standing in the entertainment area or breaking up the view.

Away in seconds

Full retraction into a cassette — or semi-cassette or open mount, depending on how exposed the position is — the moment the shade isn't needed.

Motor + wind sensor, the responsible spec

An awning caught open in a highveld thunderstorm gust can be destroyed. Auto-retract protects it before that happens, not after.

Built for South African UV

Solution-dyed acrylic fabrics hold their colour under harsh sun, rather than fading out within a single summer.

Fitting Waterfall

Turning the patio back into a room

A lot of Waterfall's entertaining happens on patios opening straight off double-volume living rooms — exactly the layout that bakes by mid-afternoon on a north- or west-facing stand. A folding-arm awning gets that space back for summer lunches and evening braais, then retracts in winter to let the low sun warm the room the way it was designed to. Given the storm season here, we specify motor plus wind sensor as the responsible default, not an optional extra.

Worth knowing honestly: it's a shade product, not a rain product — fine for light drizzle at a pitch, never a storm. And wind ratings are real limits, not suggestions, so we assess the fixing substrate on site before quoting rather than assume.
